One Vote
Since I was a little boy,
I've had drummed, into the baffles of my civic pride,
The verity that my vote is precious, democracy's largesse,
A privilege so special that men sacrifice their God-given lives
To protect and perpetuate its beneficence, its legacy.
And yet, all these many years, decades,
I've given short shrift to the singular significance of this gift,
Until just very, very recently,
As I've watched my nation profane its franchise,
By electing malevolence personified, to its highest office,
And decided that it's incumbent upon me, as a citizen,
To treat the upcoming presidential election
As an opportunity to redeem my negligence, my ingratitude,
By realizing that casting my ballot, this time,
Will be tantamount to slinging my single shot at Goliath.
