Crevasse

What miracles do I have to perform,

To prove that I'm worthy of enduring, surviving,

Able to climb up walls of sheer ice,

Out of the crevasse that's opened in the economy's glacier,

And reach the snowy surface,

To reclaim my purchase on financial stability?

Not long ago, if all I did, every month,

Was make my credit-card, auto, and mortgage payments,

I was safe, home free, could provide for my family's needs.

Now, the crevasse keeps growing wider and deeper,

Canceling, repossessing, foreclosing even miracles.

I'm freefalling, freezing. There are millions of us, down here.
