Betting on Friday

It used to be that I'd pull for Friday,

In the final furlong of each week's nine-to-five race,

Having placed big money at the betting window,

And I'd get worked up, in my grandstand-office box,

Cheering on that lathered thoroughbred,

Praying for it to cross the finish line, in record time.

But this season, I've not made a single wager,

Not even bothered to consult the Daily Racing Form,

Hoping that, by abstaining, Friday might scratch.

Perhaps it has something to do with the painful truth

That Saturday and Sunday last too long,

When you have no one to share nothing-to-do with.
