The Second Creation

Then, one endless day, in His agelessness,

He simply proclaimed that He was giving up the ghost,

The Holy Ghost of His immemorial soul,

He the Lord of Hosts, Who'd bequeathed mankind's line

Every skill it might ever need, to survive,

Before history's physicists started maniacally tinkering,

Realigning benign protons, neutrons, and electrons,

Into an unholy apocalyptic fury

Capable of exploding the planet, solar system, cosmos.

And on that day of divine abandonment, final forsaking,

He passed not away, not into oblivion,

But, rather, out of the realm of humanity, beyond its reach,

Determined to invoke a new, inviolable sanctuary,

Where man, in his profound absence,

Would never chance to destroy the sublimity of Creation.
