Second Cataract Surgery
Tomorrow morning, in an outpatient clinic,
My right eye's cataractous lens will be emulsified, by a laser,
And surgically replaced with an acrylic substitute.
Tonight, I see no poetry flowing through these lines;
Indeed, the upcoming procedure seems so prosaic, right now,
I can't imagine locating the slightest insight
That might lead me to conclude otherwise,
Unless, in less than sixteen hours,
My eyes begin seeing pleasure domes only poets envision.
