I Wish You Well
I can feel anger but not be angry,
Feel sadness but not be sad,
Feel loneliness but not be lonely,
Because I've taught myself
That letting go, on the emotional level,
Keeps feelings from consuming me.
Before feeling is contact.
Before contact is sensory awareness of it.
Before both is inchoate not-knowing.
Between feeling and being
Are two intermediate stages:
Craving/desire and clinging/attachment.
After letting go comes poetry,
Followed by enlightened closure:
Assumption of egolessness, not-being.
My anger, sadness, and loneliness —
Memory has forgotten they ever were.
They will never control me again.
Tonight, the feelings I felt for you —
Desire, attachment — have dissolved.
I wish you well.
