My Best Friend
This relaxing Saturday night, out on the town,
I'm dressed, to the nines, for fine dining,
Hoping to impress my best friend.
I lift my wineglass of glistening Chianti,
Toast whatever souls just might be hovering
In the vicinity of my liberated existence.
I'm rejuvenated, to my bones,
Feel I've just touched spirits who once knew me,
Rediscovered what human beings keep seeking
Long after losing their ability to harness the power,
Instilled in them at birth,
To fulfill their destinies' earthly purpose: intimacy.
Now, my best friend and I
Toast the universe beyond our world, contentedly,
Knowing the two of us will never be other than me.
