Pursuing the American Dream
Dagoberto Crónico,
Beside having to suffer the constant anxiety
Of possibly being outed as an illegal immigrant,
Was afflicted with a debilitating disability:
He was three foot eight and weighed 555½ pounds,
Which only added to his undesirably "high" profile,
Made him the morbidly obese dwarf gorilla
In a teahouse of Mexican geisha girls.
Yet he'd eluded authorities for seventeen years,
Since being hauled across the border, in a swine transport.
Living on the streets, he wasn't exactly invisible.
And though his bouncer's job, at Ladeez Nite Out,
Only exacerbated his public exposure,
He seemed to lead a charmed existence...
Charmed, that is, until, beneath a bridge, while asleep,
He was eaten raw, gnawed to his alienated bones,
By a marauding pack of rapacious coyotes and bobcats
Ravaging San Diego's rabid barrios,
Deported, to the surrounding sere hills and valleys,
From Chula Vista to El Cajon, as fertilizer.
