A Field Guide to the Great Apes
Humans brandish an in-your-face fist,
To convey a threatening message: "Don't mess with me!"
Gorillas beat their hirsute chests,
To intimidate potential aggressors, unwary trespassers.
Humans clap their hands,
For feculent rhetorical claptrap, blather, balderdash, cant.
But when gorillas are confronted with such vocalizations,
They heave steaming balls of shit at the specious speaker.
