Sun

This Monday, at precisely 7:50,

I was present at the beginning of the sun's manifestation,

Able to record its headfirst birth,

Its emergence from night's uterus, into earthly existence,

Its inexorable rising out of the shore trees, across from me,

Its inspiring, flaming cries, fiery screams,

Its settling into mothering nature's nurturing arms —

A baby boy she's named "sun,"

Who will bring solace, joy, warmth to this snowy, icy cosmos.

Now, three minutes shy of its diurnal journey's first hour,

The blinding orb is no longer a child, an adolescent,

Rather a man intent on incandescing this land.
