Inebriating the Beast
Who I always find waiting to greet me,
Whenever I leave my right mind,
For a spiraling of psychic riot,
Is the monstrosity I left behind,
That unbridled, feral creature
Who, fleshed in wild nakedness,
Defied terrestrial conventions,
Eschewed rules, traditions, pretensions,
Misconstrued time for immortality,
Before civilized existence enticed him
To see the light of day, at midnight,
Fly straight and level, not upside down,
And trust that man isn't a marplot,
Humanity not just an afterthought
In a plan designed by God the Primal.
And when I find that monstrosity,
That rapacious, barbaric savage,
That tragic, sadomasochistic beast,
I creep out of my waking dreams
And embrace him, with a loving hate.
Gleefully, we drink the earth vertiginous.
