Belief
What a soaring euphoria is transforming my spirit,
This luminous Christ-is-risen Easter.
Some inscrutable force is liberating my faith.
All these years of my agnostic odyssey,
I've been seeking inner peace
Without realizing it's been as close as my soul,
Just waiting for me to recognize its availability,
The ease with which I might seize it,
If only I would say, "I believe!"
This glowing moment, my brokenness feels healed,
As though holiness has known me intimately,
For two millenniums rolled into this one Sunday,
And I sense contentment settling in my bones,
Serenity disowning my egotistical emotions,
Grace restoring me to original innocence.
If, when I awaken, tomorrow,
Nothing has changed this change I'm becoming,
Belief will have sealed my destiny.
