And That's Horse Racing, Folks
Some things just never change.
Ethnic and racial hatred are ahead, by barely a nose,
Followed, nip and tuck,
By covetousness, envy, jealousy, greed, and vanity.
Running a close third
Are mendacity, hypocrisy, dishonesty, and deceit.
Cynicism, pessimism, and misanthropy are closing fast.
And don't forget bigotry, discrimination, and intolerance;
Without their bringing up the rear,
Ethnic and racial hatred wouldn't look so good,
And the middle of the pack would be rackabones hacks
Destined for the glue factory.
Let's give thanks, sing praises, hosannas, hallelujahs,
That charity, beneficence, compassion, faith,
Love, truth, equality, self-respect, and pure goodness
Were all either scratched or came up lame, out of the gate,
And had to be euthanized, for sheer humaneness's sake;
Otherwise, the race would be a just another runaway.
