One Soul

Once upon a far-too-brief long-flown time

(It seems just last evening, two or three nights ago,

That you and I rendezvoused with love,

Simultaneously climaxing to the rhythms of lambent candles

Casting orgasmic shadows on your bedroom's walls,

As we, our eyes not inches apart,

Gazed into each other's dreams, visions, deeper, deeper,

To the shores of your choreography, my poetry,

Where, naked to the essence of creativity,

We entered, explored our kindred sensibilities,

Whispering, with gentle, tender passion,

Emotions we'd never told anyone, in all our years,

Not our youths' urgent lovers, not even our spouses —

"I've never felt this way"; "I love when you touch me";

"I love who you are"; "I've never taken time to talk"),

You and I, Linda, of my yet evolving life,

Yet disclosing ecstasy, yet beckoning destiny,

Commingled, with the intricacy of lingering intimacy,

The peaceful simplicity of our spirits' sincere innocence,

And knew our one soul would never again be two.
