Hubris

In a word or 140 characters, the problem, as I too clearly see it,

Has little, if anything at all, to do with any one issue —

Iran's pursuing nuclear dominance, in the Middle East,

The U.S., Japan, Iceland, Spain, Greece,

And the rest of the European Union

Defaulting on metastasizing debt, filing for eternal bankruptcy,

Nations seeking ethnic and racial purity,

Let alone creating fatal threats to ecosystems,

From their reckless fossil-fuel abuse and carbon emissions.

The problem, in a word (six characters, two syllables), is hubris,

A pervasive refusal to cast back to the future, heed history —

Its millenniums, civilizations, replete with cautionary tales.

"You got a solution, Mr. Genius P. Einstein?" you ask.

Why, indeed I do, Mr. Arrogant Wisenheimer Haughty:

Remove every human being, from every side of the equation,

So that nature can regain its balance, its own sense of "progress,"

Give Earth a chance to collect its wits,

Allow time to return to the time before hubris knew what to do.
