Leaving
Your leaving leaves a deep vacuum in our hearts,
Leaves us grieving, sighing silent tears,
As we say good-bye to you two beautiful little ones,
Leaves us knowing that when we see you again,
Your new guises will hardly be recognizable,
For your having grown older,
In the blink of time's unblinking eyes,
Though your grandmother and I will not have changed
Or, if so, almost unrecognizably.
Your leaving, after two exultant weeks,
Leaves us sensing that when we're together again,
The Savvy and Parker who drew us to youth
Will be gentle, loving, peaceful memories,
And the Savvy and Parker we've yet to meet
Will shape, from layers of experience and innocence,
Fresh memories, which they'll leave behind
For us to gather, one by one,
So we'll know where they've been, where they're going.
