Over the Precipice

"What's it like," you inquire, without a trace of facetiousness,

"Living way out there, over the precipice of time,

Spending your days suspended in unmolested meditation?"

Flattered that you at least apparently care enough

To ask an entirely serious, curiously well-intentioned question

That might provoke, deep in my solitude, a candid answer,

I'll attempt my best to provide you with suitable communication,

Some explanation as to my essential reason for being here,

Why I relegated myself, so many vague days ago,

To this temporal wilderness, where I examine the unexamined life

And those who, like me, arrive in this dimension,

By accident, random acts of God, kismet, serendipity, or volition,

Do so at their own reckless risk, defying society's dictates,

Well aware that they might likely suffer psychic hypothermia,

Cosmic dementia, the mental bends, die alive,

Knowing the consequences of perpetuity and yet taking their chances

That if their unendingness ever does end,

They'll be returned to the sweep-second, -minute, and -hour hands

That regulate the fate of earthly celebrity and anonymity,

Legislate and adjudicate human destiny,

Decide whether our lives go to the left or to the right, right now.

Tonight, I appreciate your interest in my self-imposed immortality

Sufficiently to share, with you, this insight:

Existing out here, over the precipice of time and spacelessness,

What I've discovered is the vitalizing pleasure of being deathless,

The depth and breadth of everlastingness,

In which silence, the universe's one true voice,

Resonates with the sheer beauty of its indefectible harmony,

Setting the tempo of my infinitely infinite heart,

As it seeks the source, the origin, of my futureless future,

Searching, questing, ceaselessly, interminably, for forever,

Where my void will exist beyond the surmise of ultimate demise,

Create a measure for timelessness.
