Wordlessly
How we could have existed for so many years,
Striven so feverishly, frenetically, to belong to someone,
And yet missed discovering that the essence of love —
The coalescence of disparate spirits —
Is a conundrum which persists in astonishing us
Even when, in naked embrace,
Gazing through the space separating our faces
(A distance measured in feelings of complete trust),
We kiss each other's lips, whisper wordless "yes"s.
It's in those throes of tear-welling togetherness
That the conundrum becomes irrelevant
And we breathe the sweet harmony
That eludes souls who, sensing love's impossibility,
Nonetheless continue searching for someone
With whom to transcend loneliness
And murmur, wordlessly, "Yes...yes...yes."
