Warm

I would give anything I've ever cherished,

Anything but you,

Dearest love of my lifetime,

If I thought it could bring us back,

Back to the beginning of this weekend's Saturday noon,

When we caught our first glimpses of each other

After our vast separation, of three whole days.

But now, it's the waking hour,

Eighteen freezing degrees,

By my reluctant, disbelieving senses' cold reckoning,

And our imminent parting of ways

Is the order of this Monday a.m.,

As I prepare to leave the warmth of our love-communion.

You watch me dress, from my nakedness up.

I linger, for precious desperate seconds,

Caressing your breasts,

Which nestle between the smooth, silken folds

Of your navy-blue negligee.

"You smell so warm," I sigh.

"If only I could wear your fragrance outdoors, this morning."

"Just breathe me in. I'll keep you warm."
