Awe-Stricken

Tonight, I have a vision, feel a revelation, a numinous touch, breath.

I see, in a mystical distance, an essence that keeps drawing nigher,

With every blink of my awe-stricken eyes,

Every inspiration and exhalation my overcome heart articulates,

Every prayer my imagination embraces, my spirit recites to my soul.

What's come over me, in this epiphanic moment of my aging incarnation,

I'm at a loss for syllables, symbols, syllogisms, to say.

And yet, I sense a flaming coruscation of holiness shimmering above me,

A sacred halo, mandorla, transformational force from the source of all life,

A fire blazing above the heights of the universe's infinite edges,

An organic expression of enigmatic grandeur illuminating the sky,

A spiritual incandescence, grace-filled magnificence, majesty,

Which causes my speech to mutter beatitudes, under its breath,

My eyes to flutter even as they gaze into the lambent firmament,

My heart to recite hymns, as my spirit worships palpable eternity.

Could this visitation, rippling through my veins, brain, name,

Be a path, a passage, in the guise of an immaculate nativity,

A light being sent to guide me to an ancient manger in a strange land,

Where I might be reborn unto myself, as a child, man, son, in the flesh,

One who will devote himself to One other than himself?
