New Year's Morning by the Pacific

In a breath measuring one sheer, fleet week deep,

You and I, my wondrous love, Linda,

With the Pacific whispering its aubades and lullabies,

Have witnessed, in reverential serenity,

The dawning and setting sun of the Christmas Nativity

And the swift transitioning of New Year's Eve,

As it catapulted our wishes for peace, happiness, health

Beyond the last vestiges of was,

Into the endless potential of will be's first eternal seconds.

This morning, we lie in bed, gazing out, into the ocean,

Listening to all that water genuflecting to us,

While we laze, procrastinate, flesh to flesh,

Not yet ready to awaken into the blessed days ahead,

Instead reprising what we said, anticipating midnight —

Promises to adore each other forever more,

Never forget that the time we'll spend together, in 2011,

Is holy and belongs wholly to us.

Maybe we'll just stay here, for the rest of the year.
