Melting
Here we go again —
One more snow, to upstage spring's stage show,
One more snow you never saw coming,
Let alone see going,
For its instantaneous melting, on warm yards and roads.
The trees are scoffing, guffawing
At the swift disappearance of those goose-down flakes,
Whose innocuous transparency
Lands, on the glass of your house, car, soul,
Like so much volcanic ash
Or as radioactive particulates
Escaping a melting-down nuclear reactor...
Snow coming out of, going to, nowhere,
Not even accumulating on your memory's roof
Long enough to bury everything you've ever feared.
