Inside Us

When we're deeply, intimately, devotedly inside us,

We're reminded of one stunning truth:

Every time time loses all sense of time,

Forgets to tell itself,

Only then is love everywhere at once.

We find love in the breathing of the ocean's tides,

Residing in the palm trees' regal being,

Their fronds sweeping the swirling clouds,

With Crayola rainbows;

We discover love in the sand shifting beneath our feet.

Could we but stay, for ever's measure, inside us,

Keep time from tolling for the fading, fading,

Of our imaginations' intimations,

Reading the clock-face stations of our never agains,

Love would cleave to us as do sunrays to dust.

But all we can really share

Is the sovereignty of each other's adoration

And the hope that when the end kisses our spirits,

The love we've cherished will not perish,

Rather carry our hearts, on the waves.
