New York, New York
It's the only Saturday of our Manhattan vacation,
And it's way too late to remain in bed,
Waking in love, waking love breathtakingly,
Taking passion's time, to make our way into sunlight —
We have a necessary destination beckoning us.
Suddenly, we're in a Metro-North Railroad car,
Training toward Westchester County,
For a two-day stay with your Brooklyn-born cousin Judy.
Steel wheels reeling over gleaming tracks
Dazzle us, with the feeling of complete freedom.
We sit amidst myriad anonymous passengers
Headed, eagerly, in the direction of other directions,
Just like us, the two of us lovers,
Who are delighting in this brief diversion from the city —
An opportunity to taste the New York beyond New York.
