Keeping Warm

In this evening of innocent freedom, we'd never suspect,

From the heat our bodies keep generating, in the bedroom,

That the rest of the house is almost as cold as the whole outdoors.

Indeed, it's not until we suspend our intimacy's pleasurings,

Head to bathrooms at opposite ends of your residence,

That our naked flesh registers such a glacial awakening.

Once we're pressed against each other again, the frigidity dissipates.

Soon, doors closed, top sheet and coverlet caressing our necks,

Ardor redeems us from mid-September's chill,

And we begin breathing the serene beatitudes of deep dreams,

Seeking, in the sweet dormancy sleep incubates,

One more warm forever.
