Shaloms
The conjunction of the Days of Awe and death
Is, indeed, such an unlikely nexus . . . or is it?
Suddenly, I'm not all that certain,
As, this day before Yom Kippur,
My frail mother has surrendered to her bed,
Ready to cast off the last of her earthly burdens,
Whisper shalom to her mother and husband,
Gather up the glories of afterlife,
And leave her children to their loving shalom.
