Our Inheritance
Today, all a.m., all afternoon, all evening,
Marks Charlotte's second month away from us,
And we, her five children, crying inside,
Realize that the death of both our parents
Is the one legacy of theirs we wish weren't ours.
Now, we alone are responsible for each other,
Beholden only to our togetherness,
And must embrace this estate,
If we're to achieve the freedom we've inherited.
