Closer

Yesterday, a Saturday effervescing with jubilation,

We awakened naked as primal Creation,

Our warm, wet flesh pressed chest to breath,

And, seeing our hearts' possibilities for celebration,

Stowed sleep, beneath our dreams' pillows, and played.

Today, we leave our closeness, together,

And, almost too soon for our souls to notice,

Go our separate destinations, at the frenzied airport,

You to the West Coast, I to the snowy North Woods,

Knowing we can't keep closure waiting.

Tomorrow and for the next eight days away,

Whenever silence reminds us of our separation,

We'll recognize just why we're apart:

Lovers like us, so affectionately connected,

Need time, space, to themselves, to grow even closer.
