The Beginning of Us
I
Every morning we're born from sleep's womb —
Twin souls, identical spirits,
Two beings made whole —
It's not like or as if it were the first time;
It is the beginning of us.
II
You've given me life, sweet Linda.
Before you arrived,
I was a skein of frayed dream-thread
Discarded in a dark, desolate corner of my loneliness.
You quickened my heart's torpid pulse,
Lifted my eyes' opaque shades,
Beckoned me to awaken from the abyss
Into which my miseried history had plummeted.
Now, whenever you come near,
I hear the earth whispering on its axis,
As you breathe purpose into my destiny's essence,
Kiss my missing spirit into reexistence.
