Another Us
This first, resplendent Sunday
After hope-radiant Passover and Easter,
We awaken, as newly reborn disciples of us,
Into the naked shape of our oneness.
Stirring, waiting for Creation to effloresce,
We cleave to each other's flesh —
Creatures in awe of this divine antecedence —
And hold the moment close to our spirits' ears,
So that they might hear Earth dreaming,
Getting ready to take its incipient breaths,
Knowing that, in a spell of hours,
Our hearts will reckon with today's beckoning:
Exile into the next garden of paradise,
Into the beginning of another beginning of us.
