Burying Treasure

During the week, in this early-May off-season,

Hollywood's beach is a place of peaceful respite,

A private isle to which we retreat as frequently as is reasonable . . .

A place where we can wade through the sand's hourglass,

Post our most recent address, beside the rising and setting ocean,

And let our reflections merge in the horizon's eyes . . .

A place located only on our love's ever-expanding parchment,

Which we mark with affection's X,

To remind our spirits where to find the treasure we're burying,

So that when days slow, distances close, time silences,

And our souls beckon us to dig up and open memory's chest,

Our richesse will connect us to this love passage we're making.
