"I Wish This Were Friday Night"

When we greet each other, each Friday evening,

Both of us already know

That the extended moment of our Monday-morning leaving

Is just breaths away,

And yet we make the best of make-believe,

So that the evanescing seconds in between

Will be sufficient to keep the depth of our love heightened

Beyond the few hours, fewer days, of our inseparableness.

On our entwined bodies', mirrored spirits' separation,

You pull our sheets back over your flesh,

To protect what's left of our precious heat.

All the way to the other side of our worlds apart,

I can hear our breaths echoing,

"Never have there been two such in-love soul mates as us."
