Under a Rainbow
After three days and nights of miss-and-hit storms,
We see the first signs of their disappearance.
Walking up the deck stairs, to the kitchen,
Having just lit the briquettes in the barbeque pit,
I glimpse a brightly pulsating rainbow
Bridging the south and north shores of our quiescent lake
And call you to come outdoors, to witness it with me —
Multicolored twine connecting two tin cans,
With a kid, at each end,
Listening to his friend's whispered secrets.
Only, those two children are us,
Sending our sensuous "I love you"s back and forth,
From tongue tips to lips —
Kisses charged with primal excitement,
Like that wonderment woman and man first shared,
On recognizing the truth of their beauty,
The interconnectedness of their innocent love,
While naked under a rainbow reaching from then to now.
