Next Escape

When have you ever just decided to leave time behind,

Fly by the seat of your spirits' whims, your soul's wiles,

Let the seconds, breezes, days, clouds, breaths go where they will,

Without your paying so much as the merest attention

To their insistence on having to have their imperious ways,

When it comes to having the first say, the last so,

As to what gets done when, where, and how, with or by whom?

When have you ever just sighed, said, "The heck with all of it all,"

Jettisoned your wristwatch, smart phone, iPad, ambitions,

Buried the car keys, in an abandoned Pandora's box, beneath the sand,

Decided to sit on the end of your sun-bleached dock,

Devote your emotions to a sci-fi, historical, or romance novel,

Paddle away, in a canoe, for unexplored coves, bays,

Spend the afternoon playing cribbage, the night barbequing salmon

And watching a movie, on your one grudging concession to modernity,

Before retiring to bed, for another few hours of snuggling,

Rediscovering your lover's smooth contours, sweet recesses,

That secluded refuge in which pleasure is the only temporal dimension,

Especially when the two of you enter it simultaneously?

If you've never found the secret to banishing time, from your life,

We'll invite you along, on our next escape to this cabin by the lake.
