Our Newest Dream

After surviving the time warp of all-night flying,

Arriving seven hours ahead of who we were,

Avoiding the body's temptation to fall headlong into sleep,

We stroll out, from the De L'Europe hotel,

Taste and savor the lay of this canal-laced city,

Snack by the Amstel, near the statue of Baruch Spinoza,

Then venture back to the hotel, dine outdoors,

Toasting the swans and boats and us,

Before retiring around nine,

Lingering in the languid delight of our lovemaking —

Our flesh's tender blessing to our being here,

In this Amsterdam dream we'll take with us, to sleep.
