Beyond Tonight

If tonight were, preternaturally,

To outlast tomorrow's dawn, I'd be immeasurably surprised;

Indeed, I'd be stupefied beyond Scriptural belief.

After all, my old-time-religion faith in things unseen —

That mystical fascination with visions, epiphanies, apotheoses,

Anomalous, improbably paradoxical, impossible acts of God —

Has already determined that nothing of the sort is likely to occur,

Because it's my profoundly devout resolve to take my life,

Leave midnight to decide how to divide my meager estate.
