Slingshot

As I sit outdoors, lifting my wineglass

To October's stars and near-full moon,

I make this wish of grandiose innocence:

Let me be the beneficiary of abiding peace —

He who goes up against all life's Goliaths,

With mere poems as his ammunition,

Knowing that though I'm no match

For agencies of vengeance and doom,

I might yet fell giants threatening my existence,

Simply by reciting my own Davidian Psalms,

Saying no to death, yes to immortality,

With nothing less than YHWH's breath in my slingshot.
