The Heavens Open Up
If there were some invisible way
To bottle this full-throttle rain,
Stopple its mystical fixation on being free,
I'd become nature incarnate.
But I don't have the stomach or the heart
To antagonize the waters of God's universe,
Having learned, firsthand,
That if I so much as touch a single raindrop,
It'll turn my blood to fire,
Burn my bones to ash, incinerate my soul.
