Step by Step by Step

We go, at a pace just slow enough

To notice Hans Christian Andersen sitting, pensively,

With an open book resting on his left knee;

Wonderland's Alice poised atop a giant toadstool,

Attended by a menagerie of curious creatures;

Street musicians worthy of any professional stage,

As only New York amateurs can be;

And everyday people making their ordinary ways

By the lakes and ponds, through the grass and trees.

At the core of our passion for Manhattan

Are the walking paths in Central Park.

We define our relationship to this city by steps taken,

Routes circuitously stitched into a rapture-tapestry...

Hand in hand, never letting our fingers separate,

Surrender their affectionate hold,

That nexus through which our electricity flows,

Engendering such expressive connectivity,

We both know time married us long before we met.
