Wing in Wing

So aware are we, nearly seven decades into our youth's now,

That our time is precariously perpetual,

We vow to seize each evanescent second's heartbeat,

As though it were the only extant specimen

Of the rarest lepidopteran species ever known to the gods,

And make it flutter, hover, glide, transport us to other worlds,

Where we might share our vibrant mariposa colors

With the sublime creatures of free and peaceful kingdoms

And never fear that they'll require us to compromise our desires,

By disclosing the secret of our trusted lovers-covenant,

Expose our precious souls to the agents of jealousy.

And so it is that you and I, my sweet, exotic butterfly,

Soaring in time to our own timeless cadences, rhythms, rhymes,

Flying above and below betwixt-and-between,

Entwined in each other's voluptuous crazy-eight spirals,

Consummate the phenomenon of our bodily intimacies,

Realizing that our eon to shine, one final time out of time,

If it's not right this metamorphosing moment,

Might never again arrive, to let us defy death so erotically,

Say yes to right now, right this stroke of forevermore,

Locked in naked embrace, wing in wing,

Suspended in midair, drifting, drifting, on love's singing winds.
