Longing

Having slipped beneath the sheets, at one a.m.,

Not exhausting all our sensual energies, until three,

We reluctantly say goodnight,

Pry our hands from our heated, moaning flesh,

Abandon our ageless embrace,

Turn away from each other,

Leave behind our shared breathing, bodies, beings,

And retreat into deep separate sleep.

Oh, what exquisite longing we suffer!

But we know that when dawn arouses us,

This passionately intense desire will yet be here,

Beckoning us to retreat from deep separate sleep,

Turn toward each other,

Press our hands to our heated, moaning flesh,

Resume our ageless embrace,

Reassume our shared breathing, bodies, beings,

And eagerly say good morning.
