Reaching Across

Frequently, during our recent trip to Laguna Beach,

You and I, my most beautiful Linda,

Breast pressing against breast, breath breathing breath,

Professed our ageless love,

Entrusted our oneness unto one another's keeping,

Prophesied our perpetuity,

As we anticipated, sated, then celebrated our lovemaking,

With gentle stroking,

Whispering tender endearments, for God to overhear.

Now, the hour of our parting has apprehended us,

As it has after every trip we've taken.

Though both of us know our absence will be transitory,

Our separation fills the distance, with deep silence.

Tonight, in our far-apart beds,

We'll reach across the sheets, with yearning fingertips,

Beseech the night to bring us together, soon.

If only our rooms overlooked the Pacific Ocean,

Its waves might float us to the edge of each other's sleep.
