Approximating Godhood
And when my life is over,
Will it be said of me
That I lived with spirit, courage, fervor,
Pushed existence to the edge,
Eluded every rule,
Save those that arose, long ago,
From YHWH's strictest ukases,
That I made the most of the least,
Did my best to mitigate the worst,
Despite my limited guesses
As to God's dimensionless intentions?
All I can say, with a wide sigh,
Is that I hope, dream so,
Since I've been given just one try
To prove, beyond death's shadow,
That, being all too fallibly human,
I'm yet capable of sacredness —
Creating worlds from breezes,
Making miracles materialize
Out of imagination's abstractions,
Devising divine designs
For mankind to approximate godhood.
