Realities
One year ago, this February fourteenth,
Barely knowing each other intimately,
You and I exchanged Valentine's Day cards
That expressed the tenderest of amorous sentiments.
We spent that evening dining in a fine restaurant,
Concluding the celebration, back at your house,
Exploring the deepest recesses of our heart's affections.
Now, one year later, our bonds hardly feel old, routine,
And we've not fallen from euphoria's balcony,
To the day-to-day footpaths of reality's maze.
We sense, from the vantage of maturity's insight,
That the permanence of our togetherness
Is not a delusion which will succumb to time
But a newer reality, of romance, ecstasy, transcendence.
