Perpetuating the Universe
Every day I awaken,
Capable of writing my precious fresh breaths
Onto time's myriadly erased, crazily displaced palimpsest,
Is an occasion for grandiose celebration . . .
A glorious way of proving the perpetuity of the universe,
Confirming my earthly stay,
For one more double circumambience of the clock face . . .
A majestic manifestation of my eternal presence
Amidst the cacophonous dark forces of apocalypse,
Which would eclipse my vital light, in nanoseconds,
Were I to send word that my words are worthless surrogates
And that I'm ready to deny all accountability for them,
Capitulate to silence, for the rest of my destiny's nights . . .
The ultimate rebuke, negation of ashes and dust,
For at least the next twenty-four hours . . .
My "I refuse to give up, let go, surrender, succumb
To the numbing cessation of the sum of my poetic sum" . . .
My aggressive "yes" to my spirit's soulful progress.
