Bringing Spring

Awakening, this wind-lashed Monday, at 5:30 a.m,

With rain-drenched lightning daggering the dark-hearted sky,

I was startled to find myself alone, amidst the loud silence,

Craving the joyful boisterousness of a boy and girl

Who've come, for ten days, to visit their father's mother...

Missing the sheer doing, being, dreaming their presence invites.

Tonight, after a day as gray as a London-bumbershoot afternoon,

Forty-nine degrees in stark contrast to the weekend,

I cast back to when, after cerulean Saturday's outdoor lunch,

You, the kids, and I entered the botanical garden's Seiwa-en,

Shared the white ecstasy of blooming cherry blossoms.

Do you remember, love, how it came to us, then,

Why Savvy and Parker's plane had been delayed an hour?

They were busy loading the southern-California sun,

So they could bring us spring, in their shining eyes and smiles.
