Masterpiece
Have you ever seen a lake change colors,
Metamorphose, transmute its normal translucent hues
To the holy roses, yellows, golds, and oranges
Cimabue, Giotto, and Masaccio used,
To decorate the sacred flesh of their Renaissance frescoes?
I did, this cool, northern Wisconsin Wednesday evening,
After the sun departed the July-like day,
Its comet-tail paintbrush trailing,
In the wake of its fading away,
The glorious dabs and strokes of its celestial masterpiece.
