Patterns and Echoes
In the past two weeks,
We've attended a drawing-room farce by Kaufman and Hart;
A performance, in three parts, by the Houston Ballet;
A symphony featuring Grieg's Piano Concerto in A Minor no. 1;
And a recent adaptation of Chaim Potok's My Name Is Asher Lev;
In addition, we've traveled to Greencastle, Indiana,
For a Sunday-through-Tuesday "weekend" of state-park hiking
With two friends who appreciate doing as much as we do.
We share an insatiable craving for culture and the outdoors,
A driving desire to stay involved in the world,
Feed our minds with creativity's energy,
And a deep need for nature's music, beauty, make-believe,
The passionate attributes of the elements and arts,
Which cast light on our sense of adventure, heighten our love,
By reminding us that our capacity for wonderment
Keeps us seeking the patterns and echoes of immortality.
