Heartbeats
Who ever would have believed, imagined, dreamed
That just stroking someone else's smooth, beckoning flesh
Could evoke so many soothing emotions,
Arouse so much contentment, from another loving spirit,
Such a sense of unpossessive belonging?
Who ever could have conceived that two human beings,
Creatures conversant with constraints
That arise during the normal course of marriage,
Might find themselves in a communion so stressless
That they constantly yearn to cleave to each other's intimacy?
Though our heartbeats ask these affectionate questions,
In the deepest recesses of their souls' ceaseless passion,
And know the answers know them already,
They'll never stop asking them,
Because doing so connects them to the rest of forever.
